PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light irradiation unit that can suitably be used for the surface inspection of products. SOLUTION: In this light irradiation device for irradiating a glossy observation objective face P observed from a prescribed direction with substantially uniform irradiation light substantially omnidirectionally excepting a reverse side, a color change negating means is provided to negate apparently a color change between different color areas by emitting the irradiation light having a wavelength spectrum reflected at the substantially same reflectance even in every of the different color areas executed on the observation objective face P, and the wavelength spectrum of the irradiation light is variable in response to the color in the color area.
