PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner for a vehicle capable of delaying the timing of a a vehicle engine working request, which is made to secure cooling capacity when stopping in economy running. SOLUTION: In this air conditioner, the vehicle engine is restarted to restart a compressor when it is decided that cooling capacity of an evaporator is lowered up to a prescribed level when the vehicle engine is in an economy running stopping state in a state of a given operation command of the compressor. When the vehicle engine is in the economy running stopping state in the state of the given operation command of the compressor, high and low of a target blow-out temperature TAO of blow-out air within a cabin as an information value related to cooling thermal load of the evaporator is decided (S3).
