PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of displaying and controlling video for digital broadcast receivers by which the expansions of various specifications for display and functions required at every broadcasting carrier can be coped with and the load imposed upon a system control microcomputer can be reduced, and then, images can be converted appropriately in accordance with a decoding timing, and to provide a video display device using the method. SOLUTION: In the method of displaying and controlling video, the generation of displaying data in the unit of pixels is realized through hardware control and the analysis of specifications for display related to the generation of displaying data, the generation of control information, or the like., which occurs by the unit of lines, fields, or frames is realized through software control. Consequently, a hardware constitution for processing video signals can be used commonly and can flexibly cope with a function expanding request by only switching the software control in accordance with requested specifications.
