PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manual and automatic multi-stage telescopic umbrella manufactured with simple assembling processes, and having easy and good opening/closing operability, and sufficient strength and simple structure. SOLUTION: A main frame part has a multi-stage repeating structure comprising two upper ribs 1 and 3, and lower ribs 2 and 4 crossing in a letter X shape. The X-shaped two-rib main frame part is linked to a fixed upper runner 7 and a movable lower runner 9 provided on a main shaft. Opening/closing of the umbrella main frame part is automatically performed by vertical motion of the lower runner. The main frame part has two ribs crossing in the letter X shape so that a sufficient strength is developed against strong wind. The strength is determined by an approaching method of the upper runner and the lower runner on the main shaft. The umbrella main frame part can be formed in a multi-stage structure by increasing the number of parts for the letter X shape. The number of stages is the total number of parts of the X shape and a horizontal Y shape, wherein basically multi-stage XX etc. + horizontal letter Y. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
