<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical anisotropic film and a liquid crystal display element having little decrease in the transmittance and making bright display possible in a liquid crystal display element having an optical anisotropic film as constituent features. <P>SOLUTION: The optical anisotropic film has a polymerized layer consisting of a photopolymerized product of a polymerizable liquid crystal composition and having partially different optical retardations. The polymerizable liquid crystal composition contains a first monofunctional acrylate or a first monofunctional methacrylate which are respectively an acrylate or methacrylate of a cyclic alcohol or phenol having a liquid crystalline skeleton with at least two six-member rings as a partial structure, and the composition shows a liquid crystal phase at room temperature. Since the liquid crystal display element using the above optical anisotropic film develops colors by the combination with a polarizing film based on optical retardation, it shows little decrease in the transmittance and makes bright display compared to a liquid crystal display element which develops colors by using absorption of dyes or the like. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
