BIOSOLUBLE INORGANIC FIBER NOT PRODUCING FREE SILICIC ACID AFTER HEATING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inorganic fiber having heat resistance in the same level as that of alumina silica fiber, developing a biosoluble property in a state before having thermal history and not producing cristobalite which is one kind of free silicic acid having high harmful effect in a state after having thermal history. SOLUTION: In the inorganic fiber obtained by carrying out heat treatment of a fiber precursor prepared by spinning a spinning solution and composed of 65-99 wt.% Al2O3component and 1-35 wt.% SiO2component, the temperature at which the heat treatment is carried out is 800-1,100°C and solubility of the inorganic fiber in physiological saline is≥1%.
