PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide inorganic staple fibers uniform in both length and thickness, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The inorganic staple fibers are based on an inorganic component. In the inorganic staple fibers, the ratio:Ld/La is≤0.3( wherein, La is the mean fiber length, and Ld is the standard deviation of the fiber length ). The method for producing the inorganic staple fibers comprises (1) the step of preparing a sol solution, (2) the step of extruding the sol solution via a nozzle and subjecting the thus extruded sol solution to an electric field to form inorganic gel-like filaments, (3) the step of accumulating the inorganic gel-like filaments on a substrate moving at a speed of≥200 m/min, (4) the step of drying the inorganic gel-like filaments to form dry inorganic gel-like filaments, and (5) the step of cutting the dry inorganic gel-like filaments to a specified length to form dry inorganic gel-like staple fibers as the final inorganic staple fibers.
