PURPOSE: A backlight for an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to apply it to a large-scaled LCD by adopting plural partition lamps having a curved end portion. CONSTITUTION: A partition lamp(21) which its end is curved is arranged at a side of a light guide panel(22) and emits light. The light irradiated from the light guide panel(22) is changed into a fluorescent face light by the light guide panel(22) and supplied to the LCD panel uniformly. Lamp holders(23) for connecting the partition lamps(21) are additionally arranged at the connection portions of the partition lamps(21). The partition lamp(21) is curved with 'L' shape. That is, an electrode unit(24), as a non-emitting portion of the partition lamp(21), is curved and fixed by the lamp holder(23), so that a dark region due to the non-emitting portion is removed and light is distributed uniformly to the light guide panel(22).
