PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a maraging steel with which Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>inclusion quantity remaining in the maraging steel obtained by performing a vacuum-remelting can be reduced, and the maraging steel with the Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>inclusion reduced. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the maraging steel performing the vacuum-remelting by producing a consumable electrode for vacuum-remelting and using this consumable electrode, the above consumable electrode contains≥5 ppm Mg. This maraging steel contains at least < 10 ppm (not including zero) Mg, < 10 ppm oxygen, and < 15 ppm nitrogen. Further, this maraging steel has > 33% spinel type inclusion of≥10μm size to the total of the spinel type inclusion of≥10μm size and the Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>inclusion of≥10μm size.
