<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image retrieval system or the like capable of performing retrieval or printing of an image by use of a composite image forming apparatus (MFP) having an image reading part and an image forming part without moving from the vicinity of the MFP. <P>SOLUTION: Image data obtained by reading a document by the image reading part 210 are displayed on the liquid crystal panel of an operation panel 190. A user can select an intended portion from the displayed image. Image data or the like for the intended portion are transmitted through the Internet 100, and a retrieval of image from an image database is performed by use of a characteristic quantity calculated from the transmitted image data. A thumbnail image and the like of the retrieved image are listed and outputted by the image forming part 220 or the like, and the user selects an image to be printed in a full version. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
