<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing system which carries out correct calibration of an ink jet printer without consuming useless ink irrespective of the length of a printing operation idle period of the printer. <P>SOLUTION: According to the printing system, before execution of the calibration, it is determined whether or not an elapsed time from a last printing operation is within a predetermined period (S203), and if it is determined that the elapsed time is not within the predetermined period but exceeds the same, a reserve patch different from a calibration patch is printed out (S204). By virtue of printing out the reserve patch, a predetermined amount of ink is ejected from a nozzle of each head, and therefore the ink which has been increased in color material concentration during the elapsed time is discharged. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
