<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a gas diffusion layer precursor for a solid polymer fuel cell, wherein, in depositing a suppression agent to suppress uneven-distribution of water such as a water repellant agent or a hydrophilic agent on a porous or fibrous conductive gas diffusion layer base material, the variation in the depositing amount of the inhibitor among portions in the base material is allowed to be estimated, and the gas diffusion layer with little variations in the water permeability and the electrode catalyst depositing amount among the portions can be obtained, and to provide a high performance solid polymer fuel cell provided with the diffusion layer composed of the gas diffusion layer precursor thus obtained. <P>SOLUTION: The porous or fibrous conductive base material is impregnated with a treating solution containing the water uneven-distribution suppression agent, and baked. Then, for example, the depositing amount of the water uneven-distribution suppression agent is estimated by measuring the residual amount of the water applied to and held in the surface of the base material after baking, and the applying condition of the electrode catalyst is adjusted based on the estimated depositing amount of the water uneven-distribution suppression agent. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
