PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus that can support the operation of a user when the user cannot transmit image data which is generated by scanning and enlarging an original in color. SOLUTION: When a scan controller 42 determines that it is impossible to perform scanning with a combination of reading resolution, a size of an original, and a size of transmission selected by a user, it causes a touch panel unit 52 to display that it is impossible to perform scanning with the currently set combination and it is necessary to reduce the reading resolution so as to perform scanning.
