PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operability of a personal digital assistant having an instant messaging function utilizing presence so that a user can operate the personal digital assistant by feel without seeing a display picture. SOLUTION: A switch for exclusive use which changes the state of presence is provided, and the change of the presence state is reported to a server in accordance with user's operation of the switch for exclusive use.
