PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an evaluation method for the capacity of a moisture conditioning material for objectively determining a moisture conditioning capacity expected as the moisture conditioning material, and an evaluation index. SOLUTION: In the method for objectively evaluating the capacity of the moisture conditioning material used for the purpose of contributing to the comfortability of a dwelling environment, (1) a difference between the equlibrium water content under a predetermined humidity condition in a moisture absorbing process for the moisture conditioning material to be evaluated and equlibrium water content under a standard humidity condition and (2) a difference between the equlibrium water content under the standard humidity condition in a moisture discharge process and equlibrium water content under the predetermined humidity condition are set as indexes to evaluate the capacity of the moisture conditioning material. A moisture conditioning material wherein the capacity display of the moisture conditioning material due to the index values is applied to a product at an arbitrary position is included. By this evaluation method, a defumidifying capacity, a moisture holding capacity and a moisture conditioning index wherein these capacities are synthesized can be obtained as an index for evaluating the capacity of the moisture conditioning material.
