PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF MALONONITRILE

Production of malononitrile comprises heating a 2-cyano-N-alkoxy-acetimidoyl halide (I) at 500-1000 degrees C. The 2-cyano-N-alkoxy-acetimidoyl halide is of formula (I): R<1>, R<2> = H or alkyl; R<3> = alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl or COR<4>; R<4> = alkyl, aryl or aralkyl; X = halogen. An Independent claim is also included for (I).
