PURPOSE: A method for decoding data and a device therefor are provided to detect whether an error is generated, by using syndrome calculated results produced while decoding coded data, and to decode the data by using detected results, thereby quickly accessing the data. CONSTITUTION: A syndrome calculator inputs systematically coded codewords(31), and calculates a syndrome relating to a parity part(32). An error decider decides whether an error is generated, by using a Peterson-Gorenstein-Zierler decoding algorithm from a determinant(33). If so, a data part only is decoded(34). If at least more than two errors are generated, the data part is decoded by using an existing error correction decoding algorithm(36).
