PURPOSE: A backlight unit for an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to insert a light guide panel of a prism shape between the main light guide panel and sub light guide plate, thereby capable of enhancing the efficiency of the incidence light. CONSTITUTION: A main light guide panel(61) is constructed to a rear surface of the LCD panel and irradiates a uniform light. The first and second reflection plates(62,63) are constructed to a lower end portion of the main light guide panel(61) and reflects the light leaking into the reverse side of the LCD panel. The first sub light guide panel(64) is constructed to a lower end portion of the main light guide panel(61), mixes red, green, blue incidence lights from the outside and then outputs white light. An LED(Light Emitting Diode) lamp(65) is constructed to a side of the first sub light guide panel(64) and emits light by a plurality of red, green, and blue light emitting diodes arranged one-dimensionally. The second sub light guide panel(66) having a prism shape is constructed between the main light guide panel(61) and the first sub light guide panel(64) and increases incidence light efficiency of the main light guide panel(61). The third reflection plate is constructed to a reflection surface of the second sub light guide panel(66) and increases the reflection efficiency. A housing(68) fixes the LED lamp(65) and condenses the light emitted from the LED lamp(68) toward a direction.
