PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a client computer as is by combining the client computer with a newly introduced server computer even when a document management system of a client/server system is introduced in the future. SOLUTION: Retrieval destination and a retrieval keyword or the like are inputted by a client computer (C11, C12), and when the retrieval destination is a folder in a server computer (S13; YES), the retrieval destination information and the retrieval keyword and a retrieval request are transmitted to a server computer 20 (C14), and file data and attribute information pertinent to the retrieval keyword are received from the server computer 20 (C15).
