PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling stroke of reciprocating compressor are provided to reduce error during calculation of stroke. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus includes a voltage detecting part(400) detecting voltage loaded on both ends of a motor(M) and a capacitor(C); a current detecting part(200) detecting current impressed to the motor; a control part(300) calculating current stroke using the current and the voltage and outputting switching control signal correspondingly with the current stroke; and an electric circuit part(100) intermitting alternating current power with a triac(Tr1) to impress fixed voltage for driving the motor according to the switching control signal output by the control part.
