PURPOSE: A tool clamping/unclamping device for an automatic tool changer is provided to reduce manufacturing cost by using a coil spring instead of a disk spring. CONSTITUTION: A tool clamping/unclamping device for an automatic tool changer is composed of a spindle(18), a draw bar(16) installed in the spindle and having a tapered face(161), a coil spring(17) installed between the spindle and the draw bar and moving the draw bar up, a bush(13) having a tapered face(131) corresponding to the tapered face in the draw bar, a second ball(14), a sleeve(15), and a first ball(12). A wedge-shaped groove is formed between the tapered faces. The first ball is inserted into the wedge-shaped groove, and generates reaction force. The sleeve transmits the reaction force to the draw bar. The first ball operates a pullstuds bolt(11) installed in a collet according to the motion of the draw bar.
