PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exactly determine a quantity of a cooling medium even if there is a variation in a liquid surface. SOLUTION: A rotating electric machine is cooled by a cooling medium led in its internal space 8 so as to contact with at least part of a rotor 3, and comprises a pressure sensor 22 that detects the pressure of the internal space 8 of the rotating electric machine and a controller 20 that determines the abnormality of the quantity of the cooling medium based on the detected pressure. Cooling medium mist floats in the internal space in the rotating electric machine by the rotation of the rotor 3, and the internal pressure is increased as the density of the cooling mist is increased. The quantity of the cooling medium can exactly be determined by measuring the pressure of the internal space 8 of the rotating electric machine even if the liquid surface of the cooling medium is stirred by the rotor 3 and varied.
