PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document reader which prevents paper powder or dust from penetrating the rear side of a scale and prevents the occurrence of abnormal images. SOLUTION: In the document reader which reads a document placed on a contact glass 1 by scanning of a scanner, a white reference plate 9 for shading correction which is installed on the rear side of a scale 7 for document reference fixed to the end part of the contact glass 1 is brought into close contact with the surface of the contact glass 1 by an energizing means (a rubber member 10).
