PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a maintenance mechanism of an ink jet printer in which the width size of an apparatus can be made compact. SOLUTION: A click member 7 for locking a slide member 6 during wiping operation is supported, to oscillate freely but not to move to the left and right, by a base member 2 secured to the apparatus body. During print operation, the click member 7 is pushed downward by a protrusion 6d provided on the slide member 6 so that a print area does not interfere with a carriage 2 reciprocating in the main scanning direction.
