PURPOSE: An array substrate for an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to secure the width of an active channel widely and simultaneously minimize the value of the parasite capacitances generating between a drain electrode and a gate electrode. CONSTITUTION: A gate wire(102) extended toward a direction is formed on a substrate. A data wire(118) crossed vertically to the gate wire(102) and for defining a pixel region(P) is formed on the substrate. A TFT(Thin Film Transistor) including a gate electrode(104), an active layer(108), a source electrode(112) and a drain electrode(114) is formed at the region crossing the wires(102,118). A transparent pixel electrode(126) contacting with the drain electrode(114) is constructed to the pixel region(P) and a storage capacitor connected in parallel to the drain electrode(114) is formed on an upper portion of the gate wire(102). In the storage capacitor, the first electrode is a metal layer(116) of an island shape, which is positioned at an upper portion of the gate wire(102) and contacted with the pixel electrode, and the second electrode is a lower portion of the gate wire(102).
