PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a practicable method for producing optically active 3-hydroxypentanenitrile having a high optical purity. SOLUTION: The optically active 3-hydroxypentanenitrile or an ester of an optically active 3-acyloxypentanenitrile is produced by reacting a 3-acyloxypentanenitrile (with the proviso that the number of the carbons in the acyloxy group is≥3) or 3-hydroxypentanenitrile with an enzyme having an asymmetrically hydrolyzing ability or an asymmetrically acylating ability. In another aspect, (R)-3-hydroxypentanenitrile having a high optical purity (usually,≥95% e.e) is produced by reacting an acylated product of (R)-3-hydroxypentanenitrile with the enzyme. Also, (S)-3-hydroxypentanenitrile having a high optical purity (usually, 95% e.e) is produced by reacting (S)-3-hydroxypentanenitrile with the enzyme. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
