PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive steel for a plastic-molding die, which balances machinability with thermal conductivity. SOLUTION: The steel for the plastic-molding die comprises 0.25-0.45% C, less than 0.3% Si, 0.5-2% Mn, 0.01-0.05% S, 0.02% or less sol.Al and the balance Fe with impurities; has a two-phase metallographic structure consisting of ferrite of 15-30 area% and pearlite; and has an austenitic grain size number prescribed in JIS G 0551, of 3 or more.
