PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coloring agent using no enzyme system, uniformly coloring a keratinous material. SOLUTION: The agent comprising (i) a component (A) containing at least one dye precursor selected from compounds containing at least one aromatic ring having two or more hydroxy groups supported by two adjacent C of the aromatic ring, the first catalyst (1) selected from Mn(II) and/or Zn(II) salts, their oxides and mixtures and the second catalyst (2) selected from alkali metal hydrogencarbonate, alkaline-earth metal hydrogencarbonate and their mixtures and (ii) a component (B) containing an acidic composition and/or (iii) a component (C) containing an alkaline composition is provided.
