The pollution reduction system for an IC engine exhaust line equipped with a catalytic oxidizer pot (3) includes reformer (4) producing a hydrogen-based gas mixture from fuel contained in the vehicle's fuel tank (2). It has a storage tank (6) for the reformate connected to the reformer and the catalytic pot to provide temporary storage for the gas mixture, and a control system (5, 61, 7) for the gas mixture fed to the storage tank from the reformer to ensure conservation of the gas mixture and control an injection of the gas mixture into the pot. The control system comprises a computer (5) forming part of the engine's general management system, a non-return valve (61) between the reformer and storage tank and a controlled outlet valve (7) for the tank.
