The invention relates to a device for printing an image on an object using a stamp printing process, comprising: a printing block (3) for forming the image in colouring agent on an imaging surface thereof; and a stamp (5) for taking up the colouring agent from the imaging surface of the printing block and for printing the image on the object. The imaging surface of the printing block comprises a finely distributed grid of separate colouring agent carriers, and for the purpose of applying the colouring agent to the printing block the device further comprises a printer (4) and a control therefor which are adapted in co-action to provide predetermined colouring agent carriers with colouring agent in accordance with the image.
