A memory card having a large storage capacity and a memory area that has an equivalent level of security to IC cards. A semiconductor memory card (10) attachable to and removable from an electronic device has a non-tamper-resistant first memory (50) comprising ordinary areas (52,53) that are accessible from the electronic device and a secure area (51) that is not directly accessible from the electronic device, and also has a tamper-resistant second memory (41) that is not directly accessible from the electronic device. The semiconductor memory card (10) is so configured that the secure area (51) of the first memory (50) can be accessed only via a secure control part (30) that manages the access to the second memory (41). The secure area (51) cannot be directly accessed from any external device and hence exhibits a higher security level than an authentication area (52). Moreover, since the secure area (51) is provided in the non-tamper-resistant memory (50), it can have a large storage capacity.
