PURPOSE: A method for processing a fault in a tera router system is provided to stably operate a tera router system. CONSTITUTION: A tera router system executes table initialization for fault state management(S01), sets up a fault check period and a system configuration information initial data value in order to periodically check a fault(S02), and enters a standby state(S03). If hardware fault detection timeout is periodically generated from a system OS by the fault check period(S04), the tera router system opens a fault detection device in order to confirm whether a fault has been generated(S05). The tera router system makes fault information analysis after reading the data value of a fault register(S06,S07). The tera router system checks whether the state of each line card and switch card has been changed(S08). In case that a state has been changed, the tera router system judges whether a fault has been generated(S09). In case that a fault has been generated, the tera router system judges the class of the generated fault as critical, major or general(S10) and changes the fault state(S12). The tera router system records the data related to the changed fault state in a fault history management table(S13) and executes formatting to output a fault message to an operator(S14). Then, after outputting the fault message(S15), the tera router system checks the fault detection type(S16).
