A system for positioning the lower blades in a slitting machine has each set of blades (2.1, 2.2) located on a shaft (1) via control rings (3.1, 3.2, 3.3) and moved by a linear drive (6) with a grip (8). The grip is fitted with a permanent magnet for an improved grip with one end of a set of blades. The grip of the linear drive is narrower than the space between the blade sets. The position control is operated by a PC.
