The dimming control system includes an optical system and an image processing system. The optical system is configured to discriminate between head lamps and tail lamps and to focus the light rays from the head lamps and the tail lamps on different portions of a pixel sensor array. The image processing system includes an image array sensor (106), a microprocessor (204), a head lamp control unit (205) and the head lamps (206). The image array sensor may be an active pixel array with an image array (201) and an analogue to digital converter (202). The microprocessor analyses the data from the image array sensor and adjusts the voltage to the head lamps accordingly.
