A tablet (1) contains an active component (3) (especially a cleansing agent) which is soluble in an aqueous medium and a material (4) retarding release of the active component, components (3) and (4) being mixed together and retarding component (4) being of limited solubility in an aqueous medium such that the remaining component (3) is enclosed after partial release.
