SELECTIVE UTOPIA LEVEL 1 MATCHING APPARATUS IN ATM SYSTEM, AND IMPLEMENTING METHOD THEREOF

PURPOSE: A selective UTOPIA(Universal Test operations PHY Interface for ATM) level 1 matching apparatus in an ATM system, and an implementing method thereof are provided to select one physical layer device and match it with an ATM layer device to thereby implement them with a simple structure at a low cost. CONSTITUTION: An ATM layer(10) includes devices handling segmentation and assembly of ATM cells. The first physical layer(30) is matched with a UTOPIA level 1 and transmits data at the first speed to an optical cable. The second physical layer(40) is matched with the UTOPIA level 1 and transmits data at the second speed to a twist pair cable. A physical layer selector(20) selects one physical layer according to a physical layer select signal received from the outside, and matches the selected physical layer with the ATM layer(10).
