An over-voltage protection appliance (1) has a lower part (3) with connection terminals (5,6,7) for phase-conductors and ground- or neutral- conductor. The lower part of the appliance (1) has an unsymmetrical connection aspect, and consists of at least one over-voltage protection element (8) with an arrester/diverter (9). The plug contacts of the lower part (3) of the appliance and the plug connection contacts (12) of the over-voltage protection element (8) as well as the contact element (13) and the counter-contact element are arranged symmetrically to the transversal axis (Q) of the over-voltage protection appliance (1), so that the lower-part (3) of the over-voltage protection element (8) are mutually contacting in two arrangements rotated by 180 degrees to one another.
