1,163,577. Waste heat boilers. FOSTER WHEELER Ltd. 14 Dec., 1966 [14 Dec., 1965], No. 53116/65. Heading F4A. Feedwater to a boiler for waste heat recovery from exhaust gases of a Diesel engine 21 on a ship is supplied by a feed pump 30 and distributing valve 32 which controls the amount of water directed directly into a lower water drum 14 via a pipe 28 and that directed into a pipe 24 and passing 11 in direct heat exchange relation with the water in the drum, the valve being under the control of a thermostat 42 in a pipe 18 leading to the steam generating section 19 located in the exhaust flue 20 of the engine 21. The temperature of water fed to the section 19 is as low as possible consistent with the avoidance of condensation and corrosion in the flue. Riser tubes 16 of the heat recovery boiler 10 can be heated by burners (not shown). Steam from the boiler may be directed through a superheater 40 to generate electricity, and also through a line 41 for evaporating sea water. Modifications include the use of a single steam and water drum and indirect heat exchange between the feedwater and water in the drum. |
