The field of view increasing device uses at least one lens (7), e.g. a fresnel lens or prism lens, positioned in the field of view of the driver, providing an image of an area at the front nearside of the automobile which is projected to the eye point of the driver. The lens can be arranged on the inside or the outside of the passenger compartment adjacent the edge of the front windscreen and can be adjusted manually or electrically.
