A piston engine has a crankcase (1) with a passage (2) for a crankshaft supported at each end by a journal which is held between two bearing shells (5, 6) and rollers with a thrust bearing (10). The outer bearing shells (5) forms a rigid assembly and are linked by an oil cushion to the shaft (2).
