A method for recording data by means of a recorder for recording a plurality of pieces of data at least part of which is input at a time on a recording medium. Continuous free areas on the recording medium are detected. For each piece of data, a free area having a recording capacity larger than the data amount of the piece of data is selected from among the detected free areas. The corresponding data is recorded in the selected free area. By such a method, a failure of recording that might occur when a plurality of pieces of data is input at a time is prevented.
