The U-section rail (12) for the overhead monorail system has a flat floor supporting a pair of running wheels (2) on a column (1,4) rotatably attached to the vehicle. Inwardly turned flanges (5) at the top of the rail leave a narrow slot for the column carrying the running wheels and guide wheels. Angled extension arms on the running wheel bearings hold sprung guide wheels (3). Steering guide wheels (6) are mounted on brackets (14) which can move in vertical guides (15) so that they can engage on upward-extending guide flanges (11) on the rail or pass above them. Each bracket holds two guide wheels and is moved up and down by a single actuator (7).
