A thread storing and advancing device for the cold drawing of filaments &c. comprising two rollers having their axes askew to one another, one of them, 10, being driven and the other being idle and drawn into rotation by the filaments, is characterised in that the idle roller is divided into at least two independent portions 11a, 11b following one another in an axial direction. The roller 10 preferably is of large diameter, has a high coefficient of friction and substantially effects the cold drawing of the filaments &c. by the time they reach the portion 11b of the idle roller, which roller portion may support only the last turn of the filament.
