The device has several continuously adjustable ratio ranges, a drive shaft for fixed connection to an engine connected via a distribution gearbox to both shafts of a variable drive and a parallel discrete gearbox whose output shaft forms the gearbox output shaft. At least two ratio ranges differ only in the conversion ratio between the input shaft of the parallel, discrete gearbox and its output shaft. The device has several ratio ranges with continuously adjustable ratios, a drive shaft (2) for fixed connection to an engine and connected via a distribution gearbox (12) to both shafts of a variable drive (4) and a parallel discrete gearbox (20) whose input shafts can be coupled via respective couplings to variable drive shafts and whose output shaft forms the gearbox output shaft (10). At least two ratio ranges differ only in the conversion ratio between the input shaft of the parallel, discrete gearbox and its output shaft.
