A method and apparatus for providing a network signaling method. More particularly, the present invention relates to providing basic POTS (Plain Old Telephone System) telephony between a Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) device and a Central Office (CO) device. The present invention also optimizes bandwidth of voice samples over AAL2 while supporting voice compression.
