A battery (1) is connected to a resistor (Rv) and an operational amplifier (2). This has an output to a microcontroller (3). There are data IN (4) and data OUT (5) bus connections, also a connection to a high-side switch (6). Current through individual circuits is measured. If an excessive current, due to a fault, is detected, the measured current is compared with a reference value, equal to the maximum normal current.
