The compressed air system has a control unit (27) connected to four separate air supply units (11-14). Each unit has a pump (19-22) driven by an electric motor (23-26) filling separate air bottles (15-18). One of the bottles is connected to the air springs (5) on the suspension. The vehicle has six wheels (6). The remaining three air bottles are connected respectively to the front wheel brakes (7), middle wheel brakes and rear wheel brakes. A control system (8) is connected to the brake pedal (9), and there are control valves (31,32) in the air lines for the front wheel and middle wheel brakes.
