In a process to monitor the concentration of NOx in automotive exhaust gases, a sensor monitors the change in NOx gas concentration for plausibility against pre-determined operating parameters. The plausibility is tested by monitoring the NOx signal activity, a characteristic value defining the range of activity, and a characteristic value for the NOx signal against standard operating parameters. The plausibility of the operating conditions is tested against dynamic changes in oxygen concentration, the concentration of ammonia in exhaust gases and catalyst condition. The characteristic values are determined using a mathematical statistical method. If a non-plausible value is detected, the system generates a corrected NOx signal. An Independent claim is included for an assembly used in the above method. |
