PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling electrostatic force of a resistance welder are provided to improve welding performance by increasing control frequency using an inverter. CONSTITUTION: An electrostatic force control apparatus includes a thyristor rectifier(41) for receiving power. A DE link capacitor(42), a voltage detector(43), an inverter(46) and a transformer(20) are parallel connected to an output terminal of the thyristor rectifier(41). A secondary rectifier(32) and a welder(33) are parallel connected to the transformer(20). A control unit is provided to control electrostatic force by adjusting a thyristor switch using a thyristor switch driving section according to an order of an electrostatic voltage controller(44).
