A liquid crystal display device comprises a first liquid crystal layer (15), a second liquid crystal layer, alignement layers (13,14) orientating the second liquid crystal layer, and a driving circuit (1802) driving the first liquid layer, with the alignment layers (13,14) divided into a plurality of regions whereby the orientations of the alignment layers in adjacent regions differ from each other and the regions form a recognizable pattern. This makes it difficult to recognize a displayed image from directions other than the front of the display, and allows a static pattern to be seen when the display is viewed from directions other than the front; the pattern is used to display a figure or a trade name of a product. <IMAGE> <IMAGE> |
